Frequently asked questions
What is PDF/A?
PDF/A is an ISO-standardized form of PDF for long-term archiving. A PDF/A file contains everything it needs to display, such as its fonts, and relies on nothing outside the file. So it still looks the same decades later. Many archives and authorities require PDF/A.
Which PDF/A level do I need?
For most business documents, PDF/A-2b is the usual standard. PDF/A-3 also allows embedded files, for example the XML data of an electronic invoice. The levels with an a (accessible) also require a structure for accessibility.
